Master Degree Project about Wireless Control

In Sweden, ABB Corporate Research, located in Västerås, employs 280 scientists from over 40 countries with expertise in automation and power technologies for manufacturing, consumer and process industries as well as power utilities.

Problem Statement:

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are becoming increasingly important for the automation industry and several new applications such as Wireless Control are emerging. Existing WSNs are mainly made for monitoring and slow control applications. This thesis project aims to implement and evaluate cross-layer approaches for enabling fast wireless control applications in Process Automation. The thesis work will contain both theory and implementation in software and hardware.

Requirements:

• Students in MSc programs in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, and Computer Engineering or similar is suited for this job.
• Candidates are expected to have a strong background in communication theory, signal processing and computer science.
• Good knowledge in programming (C/C++, and some Matlab), wireless communication, real-time communication and some signal processing.
• Good mathematical and programming skills are desired.
• It is also important that the applicant have good writing and communication skills.
